Playbook: 10-minute token check before you buy anything

Run through this list on any token, including CHIEF. If you can't answer a question, treat that as a warning sign.

Is the contract verified? Open it on the block explorer (BaseScan for Base) and look for the green "verified source code" check.
Who is the owner, and what can they do? Read the contract for mint, pause, blacklist, or fee-change functions. An owner who can mint without a cap can dilute holders.
Is ownership a single wallet or a multisig? A single key is a single point of failure.
How deep is the liquidity? Check the pool's actual token balances, not just the quoted price. Thin pools mean big slippage and unreliable prices.
Is liquidity locked? Look for a lock contract with a clear unlock date. "Trust me" is not a lock.
How concentrated are the holders? If one or two wallets hold nearly everything, they control the market.
Is there real trading activity? A handful of trades, or trades that bounce between the same wallets, can signal fake volume.
Can you verify the team's claims? Every claim of an audit, partnership, or listing should come with a link you can check yourself.
Does the project disclose its risks? Honest projects tell you what could go wrong.
Can you afford to lose it all? If not, don't buy.

Playbook: Base wallet safety routine

Do

Keep your seed phrase offline and never type it into a website or chat.
Use a separate "hot" wallet with small amounts for trying new apps.
Check the network (Base) and the exact contract address before approving.
Review and revoke old token approvals every month.

Don't

Share your private key or seed phrase with anyone, including "support".
Approve unlimited spending for apps you don't trust.
Click wallet links from DMs, even if they look official.
Rush. Scammers rely on urgency.
